A

A

One of Riel’s prisoners during the Red River Rebellion. He incited violence against Riel and the Metis. Riel had him executed for this, one of Riel’s negative legacies. The Globe wrote about it and called for Riel to be hanged. A bounty was out for Riel’s capture.

A

Riel didn’t want to be thought of as mad because that would discredit his thoughts. Riel surrendered because he wanted to be known as defensive not aggressive. He was tried with High Treason by John A (guaranteeing his death if he lost). Verdict was guilty with recommendation for mercy (mercy was ignored).

A
