Unit One Vocab T-W Flashcards
Tabular Dimensioning
A type of dimensioning where letters are substituted for dimensions that are listed in a table on the drawing. This permits more than one part to appear on the same drawing.
Tangent
A line drawn to the surface of an arc or circle so that it contacts the arc or circle at only one point.
Tap
A tool for cutting threads in a hole drilled to a particular size for threading operation.
Taper
Conical shape that permits a shaft or a hole to become gradually smaller at one end.
Temper
To change the physical characteristics of hardened steel by reheating to an intermediate temp range for the purpose of toughening the steel. Also has a softening effect.
Template
A thin sheet used as a guide for the form and shape of the piece to be made.
Tolerance
Permissible variation from a given dimension.
Total Tolerance
Total amount of variation allowed for a specified dimension.
Triangle
A three-sided figure (180 degrees)
Typical
A term used with drawing dimensions to indicate that all similar dimensionless features are intended to have the same dimensions as the one marked TYP.
Undercut
A groove cut on the inside of another cut ( a hole for ex.)
Unilateral
Having only one or one side only.
Upset
To strike a piece of metal until it becomes greater in its cross section. To hammer metal into a different shape.
Vertical
Perpendicular to the horizon or 90 degrees from the horizontal place.
Wooddruff Key
A flat key, semicircular in shape. The two basic dimensions (diameter and width) are coded into the key number. The last two digits designate the diameter in 1/8ths of an inch. The preceding digits designate the width in 1/32nds of an inch.
Ex: Wooddruff Key No. 608=
(8/8 = 1 inch diameter and 6/32= 3/16 in. wide)
