Unit IV Flashcards
Is a nourishing substance that we take into our body through eating or drinking.
Food
It is mainly responsible for the digestion and absorption of food.
Digestive System
Basic structural and functional units of life.
Cells
Part that holds the organelles.
Cytoplasm
Surrounds the cytoplasm and decides what materials should be kept in and out of the cell.
Cell Membrane
The “brain” of the cell where the chromosomes are located.
Nucleus
Threadlike materials that hold the organisms genetic material called deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)
Chromosomes
Are mostly unicellular organisms, they only consist of only one cell.
Prokaryotes
Mostly multicellular organisms, consist of multiple numbers of cells.
Eukaryotes.
How do bacterias reproduce?
Binary Fission
An ordered cycle of cell growth.
Cell Cycle
Two important stages in the cell cycle.
Interphase and Cell Division
Type of cell division of the nucleus that takes place in somatic or body cells such as those in bones or skin.
Mitosis
Is the point that divides the chromosomes into two sections of sister chromatids, which are the arms-short arm and a long arm.
Centromere
Happens during the S phase of the interphase before the cell division occurs.
DNA Replication
