What does the fourth commandment honor your mother and father called you to do
The fourth commandment calls us to live in charity starting with honor and respect for parents and then for all those whom God has given authority
When should you obey your parents
You should obey your parents before any other legitimate authority
Define legitimate authority and state three examples when it is acceptable to disobey legitimate authority
Legitimate authority is from God and it is there to serve the common good. Legitimate authority is there when it is recognized by the population as a whole example parents teachers police it is acceptable to disobey when the rules are unfair or when we are called to act immoral
What was Jesus’s view of obedience and his parents why did Jesus disobey his parents
Jesus trusted that the discipline and virtue of obedience would help him to become the person God wanted him to be he was obedient with his parents and respected the fact that God chose Mary and Joseph as his parents he disobeyed them because he wanted to stay for good reasons and thought it would be okay
Define the common good
The common good is every thing that allows individuals and groups to reach their full potential and it is built upon respect for individuals and a peaceful social order I have freedom and restrictions
Explain the original cell of social life
The original sale of social life is what happens with interfamily sheep society the family is the first teacher of virtues of the faith hope and love
What does it mean to except co- responsibility with those in authority
To except cool responsibility means to be aware of what those in authority are doing we have a responsibility to challenge them when the common good is not being served as well as it might be for example we should exercise the right to vote,pay taxes, welcome refugees and immigrants
Define obedience
Obedience is listening to and acting on the wisdom of people who are appropriately exercising their authority
List the precepts of the church
- attend mass on Sundays before God and holy days of obligation
- confess you’re serious sins at least once a year
- receive holy communion at least once a year during the Easter season
- keep the holy days of obligation
- observe the prescribed days of fasting and abstinence
- provide for the material needs of the church as far as you are able
