Unit Five Flashcards
SSB
Self-Stimulatory Behavior
Any repetitive, stereotypic activity that appears to serve no purpose other than to provide sensory feedback.
SIB
Self-Injurous Behavior
Behavior that causes physical injury to the person exhibiting it; also referred to as self-mutilating or self-destructive behavior.
Stereotypic
A performing of apparently purposeless movements or actions that are repeated in a similar manner
Perceptual Reinforcer
Reinforcement by engaging in particular perceptual experiences; a key to understanding self-stimulatory behaviors to view them as a form of perceptual self-reinforcement
Positive Practice Overcorrection
A procedure in which the student is required to engage in a period of exaggerated alternative behaviors (exercises) after an episode of unwanted behavior
Restitutional Overcorrection
The student must restore an environment that he or she has disturbed to its condition before the disturbance and must then improve it beyond its original condition, thereby overcorrecting the effects of his or her behavior on the environment
