Ballottement
A technique of palpating a floating structure by bouncing it gently and feeling it rebound

Chadwick Sign
Violet-blue vaginal mucosa and cervix. Can be evident as early as the 6th week of pregnancy but it easily noted by the 8th week.

A woman who is pregnant for the 1st time
Parity
The # of pregnancies in which the fetus or fetuses have reached 20 weeks gestation, not the number of fetuses born. Parity is not affected by whether the fetus is born alive or is still born
Nullipara
A woman who has not completed a pregnancy with a fetus who has reached 20 weeks gestation or more
Primapara
A woman who has completed one pregnancy with a fetus who have reached 20 weeks gestation or more
Multipara
A woman who has completed two or more pregnancies to 20 weeks of gestation or more
Naegele’s rule
Common method for calculating EDB.
- Determine 1st day of last menstural cycle
- Subtract 3 calendar months
- Add 7 days
