Unit Cell Structure Flashcards
1
Q
What is a unit cell structure
A
Is the smallest repeatable structure in a crystal lattice. This is called a simple cubic structure.
2
Q
What are the four types of UCS
A
Simple cubic (SC), Body centred cubic (BCC), Hexagonal close packed (HCP), Face centred cubic (FCC)
3
Q
Packing factor
A
The higher the packing factor the more space has been taken up by atoms.
4
Q
What does the block slip model represent
A
It represents elastic to plastic deformation
5
Q
Slip plane
A
The movement between atoms across one plane. FCC and HCP have more active planes which mean they are more ductile but have less strength.
