What is the organization of cells?
Cells → Tissues → Organs → Organ Systems → Organism
Classify organisms.
made up of at least one cell, a living thing, has an organized structure, can react to stimuli, reproduce, grow, and adapt.
What is a cell? What is it’s role?
The basic unit of life. (All living things have it.) It performs all the functions necessary for life like growth, digestion, respiration, excretion, and reproduction.
What’s the difference between unicellular and multicellular organisms?
Unicellular - unicellular organism depends upon just one cell.
Multicellular - has cells specialized to perform different functions.
What’s the difference between a plant and animal cell?
Plants have root system, xylem and the phloem while animals have connective, epithelial, muscle and nervous tissues.
What is diffusion and osmosis?
Diffusion - movement of particles of a substance from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Osmosis - diffusion of water through membranes with very small openings.
What are organs and tissues? Give one example each and their role.
Organs - a collection of tissues joined in a structural unit to serve a common function. i.e. kidneys - remove wastes, and acid, and neutralize body fluids.
Tissues - a group of cells with similar shape and function. i.e. Phloem - transports carbohydrates, produced by photosynthesis
What is the function of a cell membrane?
Regulates the transport of materials entering and exiting the cell.
What are the 5 different body systems?
Respiratory, circulatory, digestive, excretory, and nervous/sensory system.
What is the function of each body system?
Respiratory - Breathing
Circulatory - Blood Circulation
Digestive - Process Food
Excretory - Removes Waste
Nervous - Communication between all body systems
What is a stimulus?
Any change in an organism’s environment that causes the organism to react.
Give 3 examples of health and environmental factors.
Asthma, Bronchitis, Smoking Cigarettes, Ulcers, Scurvy, etc.
