Unit 9: Convergent Technologies Flashcards
Distinguishing features of Voice Systems
Full-duplex: Telephones are designed for both sender and receiver to transmit and receive data simultaneously
Robust: still have power to landline even though power is lost during a storm
Hierarchical: a telephone call is circuit switched
Military applications to voice systems
Voice, Data, Video
Advantages: Extremely robust, easy to use, difficult to intercept
Disadvantages: Lacks media richness, less adaptable, expensive to build
AN/PPS-5B Radar
Ground Surveillance Radar Set is lightweight, man-portable, ground to ground
AN/GPN-20 Radar
Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR) is used by the Radar Approach Control (RAPCON)
Precision Approach Radar (PAR)
Provides a form of precision approach control during the final minutes before landing
AN/TSQ-214 (V)2 Air Defense System Integrator (ADSI)
Key C4 asset that integrates different data links from different sources
Data links
Interface two or more C2 weapons systems
What is the senior AF Theater Air Control System (TACS)?
Air Operations Center (AOC)
TACS is comprised of ground and airborne elements
Radio over Internet Protocol Network (RIPRNET)
An IP-based network which inputs and outputs radio signals from ground based radio users
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) consists of three primary components
Flight vehicle
Ground control segments
Control data links
Situational Awareness and Assessment (SAA)
An application feeds data to the Global C2 System (GCCS) Common Operating Picture (COP) so higher command can view air situation
C2 Networks
Military applications: C2, Intelligence support
Distinguishing features: Reliant on other networks, hierarchical and distributed, full-duplex
Advantages: Highly interoperable, highly redundant and difficult to jam, built with security
Disadvantages: Reliant on specific nodes and locations, only as effective as the data put into or taken out of them
