A

He made democracy more fair ( not perfect) canceled debts of poor, freed slaved farmers, canceled unfair payments of greedy people, reduced power of very rich, created council chosen by chance.

He allowed Assembly members debated openly and heard court cases, citizens were organized by where they lived, each group had 50 representatives to the council of 500

what did Pericles do?

A

expanded the limited democracy to one that allowed all male citizens to participate in government, transferred remaining power of very wealthy to the assembly, paid jurors and public officials, opened political positions to middle class. he formed a direct democracy.

A

They surrounded Athens on both land and water.

how did the plague start?

A

When Sparta surrounded Athens, athenians retreated behind the strong city walls.. being so close together they developed the plague.

Who is Myrtis?

A

She was a victim of the plague around 430 B.C. An 11 year old girl who’s body was found in a subway tunnel in the 1990s. Scientists reconstructed her face to look like what she had looked like in the past.

A

Athens and Sparta made a 50 year truce to stop fighting. but it didn’t last long..
