What is the Moon?
A spherical - shaped rock that orbits the Earth.
What do the Sun and the Moon have in common?
They both rise in the East and both set in the West.
What important role does the Moon play?
In the high and low tides of the oceans on Earth.
What does the gravitational force between the Moon and Earth do?
It pulls on the surface of the water.
What happens during full or new Moon?
The gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun combine to produce the highest tide.
What does “gravitational force” mean?
It means the pull between to or more objects.
What is the “highest tide” called?
The Spring Tide.
What happens during quarter Moon?
The gravitational forces between the Sun and the Moon oppose each other, creating the lowest tide.
What is the “lowest tide” called?
The Neap Tide.
