How is a year divided?
A year is divided into 12 months, which is divided into 4 seasons.
How come we have different seasons?
We have different seasons because the Earth receives different amounts of heat and light during the year. This is because the Earth’s orbit is not round.
What are seasons based on?
Seasons are based on the REVOLUTION of the Earth around the Sun. The orbit of the Earth around the Sun is elliptical and Earth is tilted.
What does “elliptical” mean?
Elliptical means “rounded shape like an oval”.
What season does the side facing the Sun experience?
Summer.
What does the side facing away from the Sun experience?
Winter.
