UNIT 6: Probability Flashcards
Mutually Exclusive
Two or more events that cannot happen at the same time
Exhaustive
Events that cover every outcome
Absolute Risk
Absolute risk
Number of trials in which event happens / Total number of trials
Relative Risk
Relative Risk for a group
Risk for those in group / Risk for those not in group
General Addition Formula for probability
P(A∪B)=P(A)+P(B)−P(A∩B)
Independent
Two events are independent if the outcome of one does not affect the outcome of the other.
Multiplication Formula for independent events
P(A∩B)=P(A)×P(B)
Conditional Probability
Two events are conditional if the outcome one effects the outcome of the other
P(A|B)
The probability of A GIVEN THAT B has already happened
Conditional Probability Formula
P(A│B) = P(A∩B) / P(B)
P(A│B)P(B) = P(A∩B) = P(B│A)P(A)
Test for independence
A and B are independent if
P(A∩B)=P(A)P(B)
