Unit 6 Motion Flashcards
Forces that cancel each other out because they are equal in size and opposite in direction.
Balanced Forces
Any change in the speed or direction of an object’s motion.
Acceleration
The background, an object used for comparison.
Frame of Reference
Force used to move an object forward, or away, from you.
Push
Force used to move an object closer to you.
Pull
The unit of measure for force, N.
Newton
A measure of how much matter something contains, doesn’t change with location.
Mass
A measure of how strongly gravity pulls downward, changes with location.
Weight
The speed of an object in a particular direction.
Velocity
The measure of an object’s change in position during a certain amount of time, calculated by distance/time.
Speed
Forces that cause a change in an object’s motion because they don’t cancel each other out.
Unbalanced Forces
The location of an object in relation to a nearby object or place.
Position
A change in position of an object.
Motion
A force that acts between two touching objects that opposes motion.
Friction
A push or a pull, which may cause a change in an object’s position.
