Q

What experiment in 1944 provided evidence that DNA was the genetic molecule?

A

Oswald Avery’s modification of Frederick Griffith’s mouse experiment, using DNA-ase (abbreviated) to destroy the DNA in some of the mixed bacteria samples (had both heat-killed coated bacteria, and living uncoated bacteria)

Q

What was the experiment that finally proved that DNA is the genetic molecule?

A

Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase’s experiment in 1952 with bacteriophages. They cultivated bacteriophages with radioactive protein and bacteriophages with radioactive DNA, and then loosed them on some bacteria. They then identified what radioactive material appeared where. (The protein stayed in the viruses, but the DNA was injected into the bacteria)
