Unit 6 Flashcards
is the graphical representation of the different views of an object to show the necessary information needed. There are six possible views that can be projected: the front view, top view, right side view, bottom view, rear view and left side view.
Orthographic projection
is thick solid linesused to represent the outline of the
object that can see from a view. The
thickness may be selected to suit thesize of the drawing and the sheet. It isalso known as a visible line.
Object line
ismedium lines consisting of equallyspaced short dashes of about 1/8” longand 1/6” apart. It is used to indicatehidden features of the object.
Hidden line
are thin linesmade with an alternate long and shortdashes used to indicate the location ofcircular features. For long dashes, it isapproximately 1/2” (5 mm) to 3/4”(7.5mm) long and the short dash isabout 1/16” (1mm) to 1/8” (2mm).
Center line
is thin longlines used as a witness to the points onthe objects dimensioned. It is alsoused to project edges of the objectfrom one view to the other.
Extension line
Is thin long
broken or unbroken line used to permit
insertion of the dimension figure. It
terminated with arrowheads on both
ends. It tells the distance measured.
Dimension line
is thickline consisting of one lone and twoshort dashes alternating. The long
dash is approximately 3/4” to 1 1/2,” and
the short dash is 1/8” long with a gap of
1/32 of an inch (1.5mm) betweendashes. It is used to indicate exposedcut surfaces of the objects.
Cutting plane line
are thin evenly space line usually an
angle of 45°. It is used to indicate
exposed cut surfaces of the objects.
Section line or hatching line
are thinlines drawn with a straight edge and afreehand zigzag. This line indicatesthe structure that has been broken topermit convenient location on thepaper.
Long break line
is a thick drawn
freehand. This line used to indicate
short breaks in the structure. It alsoused to conserve space on thedrawing.
Short break line or conventional line
is a thin line used to
indicate alternate positions of moving
parts, path of motion, adjacent parts,
and repetitive details.
Phantom line
is the short, thin lineused to indicate the location of stitchingor sewingThe short dash is (.003),and thedistance is (003) apart.
Stitch line
is a very heavy line
used to enclose the drawing.
Border line
Very light and
thin used to construct layout work.
