Steps for writing formulas
1: Find each element on the periodic table and ignore any differences in the names.
2: Write down the symbol for each element. The cation is always written first.
3: Find the charge of each element from the periodic table.
4: Write down the charge for each element as a subscript
5: Crisscross the charges and use them as subscripts
6: If your subscript is 1, do not write it
7: If necessary, reduce the subscripts to the lowest whole number ratio.
Steps for naming
1: Find the first element on the periodic table.
2: Write down the name of the element. This is the cation.
3: Find the second element on the periodic table.
4: Write down the name of the element, but change the ending to -ide. This is the anion.
5: Charges are ignored when naming binary ionic compounds
