Gil Y’Barbo founded Nacogdoches in 1779 in East Texas, because people were mad that they were being sent to San Antonio and he decided to lead a group without permission and established Nacogdoches.

The U.S. purchased the Louisiana Purchase from France for $15,000,000 on April 30, 1803. It doubled the size of Texas and it was in the middle chunk of the todays U.S.A.

Neutral Ground

A

Neutral Ground was when the U.S. and Spain couldn’t decide on a boundary but neither wanted to fight, so they set up the Neutral Ground Agreement so they wouldn’t fight but could decide later when better prepared; the Agreement lasted between 1806 and 1821.

Adams-Onis Treaty

A

When the U.S. and Spain finally wanted to decide on the Neutral Ground they set up the Adams-Onis Treaty saying that the U.S. gets the Sabine River as a boundary and they get Florida, and for Spain the U.S. had to promise to stay away from Texas.

The speech Grito de Dolores was said by Miguel Hidalgo on September 16, 1810. The speech was about how Mexican Citizens should fight for independence from Spain. This took place in Dolores, Mexico

The Gutierrez-Magee Expedition was when Gutierrez de Lara went to U.S. in 1811 to find help freeing Texas from Spain, while there he met Augustus Magee and together they create the Republican Army of the North

Battle of Medina

A

The Battle of Medina was the “bloodiest battle in Texas history” and General Arredondo overwhelmed and killed the Republican Army, south of San Antonio(20 miles) on August 18, 1813. The result was that Texas remained under Spains control for another 7 years but it helped start a movement.

San Felipe de Austin was Stephen F. Austin’s Colony established in 1821.
It was between the Colorado and Brazos Rivers. The area had rich soil, access to water and a warm climate.

The State Colonization Law of 1825’s goal was to colonize(increase population) in Mexico. In 1825, Mexico used cheap land, an escape from debt, and an adventure to convince people to settle in Mexico.
