Unit 5 Phosprous Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
What’s mycorrhizae/ adaptations and how is beneficial for plant growth
(4 marks)
A
Mycorrhizae is a fungal association between plant roots and beneficial fungi
- it provides a large surface area for uptake of water and inorganic ions
- acts as a sponge so can absorb and hold water and minuet am easily
- making it more resistant to drought and able to take up more inorganic ions
2
Q
Why is the phosphorus cycle essential
A
Essential to form DNA, RNA, ATP and Phospholipid bilayer
3
Q
First stage of phosphorus cycle
how it enters
A
Phosphate ions enter by weathering when is taken by soil or water through rocks
4
Q
Second stage of phosphorus cycle
A
Plants assimilate(take in) phosphate ions
5
Q
3rd stage of phosphorus cycle
Feeding and what happens after decomposition
A
Animals feed on plants containing phosphate ions
And when they die and decompose(by saprobionts) the ions return to the soil
