AIRLOTS
Designated airspace over a piece of land
BASE LINES

A survey system created in 1785 by the federal government that references land based on principal meridians and baselines.
SECTIONS
A portion of a township in the rectangular survey system.
SURVEY
The process of locating and measuring a property’s boundary lines to determine the exact amount of land that a homeowner owns.
TOWNSHIP LINES
All lines that run east and west parallel to the baseline in a rectangular survey system.
TIERS
The strips of land formed by the township lines running north and south of the baselines in the government survey system.
TOWNSHIPS
The principle unit of the rectangular survey system that is a 6 mile square of 36 miles.
