Unit 5 - IMS Flashcards
IMS
Integrated Management System - A system of multiple function specific sytems that are integrated and managed as a single one by finding common elements.
Integration process
Process of unifying different function-specific MSs in a more effective and integrated system.
Most common order of integration strategy:
- QMS
- EMS
- Other
Implementation type (ways of doing it):
- Simultaneously (integrated or not)
- Separately (sequential)
- IMS implemented directly.
Which model of the integration (to reach IMS) will probably be used?
Probably the same as the first system implemented since the company is familiar with that type of model.
Integration methodologies:
There is no common/standardized model to use but HLS have made it easier to integrate different MSs. Most common models are therefore those used in MSs:
- Process map
- PDCA
- Common elements
- Own models
Are IMSs certifiable?
Not international, since there is not standardized model/system. But some states have it.
Can you have a fully integrated system when merging the common elements?
No, you will just have a partial integrated system since you only integrate the common elements while leaving the unique req. within each specific MS separately.
PAS 99
One of the integration models that also just reach the partial integration where the common req are integrated but not the specific ones.
Have ISO any standards for the IMS?
No, they have oublished a manual that you can use when implementing the system but it is not a standard.
A seven step approach
model by Karapetrovic and Willborn
Similar to RADAR... 1. Desired output 2. System design 3. Assignment 4. Deployment 5. System implementation 6. Present output 7. Evaluation. Similar to implementing a single MS.
Integration “management models” (3)
- Initial model: framework formed by the MS, ex PDCA or process map. Not a combination, one or the other. Does not make sense after the latest version since they are one model now (Process map + PDCA)
- Combined model: the 2015 version process map + PDCA.
- Complacent model: own model that can act as different ones.
Asif’s IMS implementation process:
Steps:
1. Key processes specific for the org
2. Operations excellence
3. Integration in strategy and operations
4. Business excellence
So he means that in order to achieve excellence you must integrate the systems.
Integration levels:
- No integration: all systems kept separately.
- Partial integration: some common elements are integrated, or some MSs are integrated while some are not.
- Full integration: all MSs and its activities are integrated. Managed as one. Treated equally important.
Audit system’s integration: interal audits
Since the internal audits are part of the implementation of MSs they will be integrated at the same level as the systems. So if the systems are only partially integrated, the audits will be the same.
