unit 5-How far? - Pringle Flashcards
What is dynamic equilibrium?
When the forwards rate of reaction equals the backwards rate of reaction.
What is the equation for Kc?
[products] / [reactants]
When is Kc not constant?
When there is a change in temp.
If Kc > 1, where does equilibrium lie & what does the reaction favour?
Right, favours products.
If Kc < 1, where does equilibrium lie & what does the reaction favour?
Left, favours reactants.
What is heterogeneous equilibria?
Where the reactants and products are in different states.
What is homogeneous equilibria?
Where all reactants and products are in the same state.
Do you include solids in Kc calculations?
No.
What is Kp?
Equilibria involving gases.
What is partial pressure?
The amount of pressure exerted by an individual gaseous substance if it occupies a reaction vessel on its own.
What is the equation for partial pressure?
Mole fraction x total pressure.
Why would you use the equation for partial pressure?
To work out the partial pressure of an individual gaseous substance within a mixture of different gases.
What is the calculation to find the mole fraction of a substance?
n.o moles of a substance / total n.o moles of all substances
