unit 5 (cpr) Flashcards
where to check pulse on each class
unconscious child + adult is carotid. conscious child + adult is radial. infants is brachial.
atrial systole
atrial depolarization (contraction)
ventricular diastole
ventricles filling and relaxed
adult chain of survival
recognize cardiac arrest, call 911, give chest compressions, early defibrillation
pediatric chain of survival
recognize cardiac arrest, give 5 cycles and breaths, call 911
if you have 2 rescuers for child CPR, how do you adjust the compression to breath ration
change it to 15:2
what is the compression to breath ratio for one person infant CPR
30:2 until second rescuer arrives
pad placement of AED paddles
upper right and left under armpit. if pacemaker, just place the pad below it. if medication pad, take off and place paddles in correct spot. if skin is wet, dry the chest off.
AED paddle placement on children
if AED arrives, finish CPR before placing. place in same spots as adult unless the child is too small and they touch, then place one over sternum and one over spine.
what does AED set up consist of
turning the device on, plugging in the pads, and putting them on the chest
when should you stop CPR
rescuer exhaustion, obvious signs of life, EMS arrives, physician orders you to stop, scene becomes unsafe
what are some complications of CPR
gastric distention- readjust airway, regurgitation- immediately stop and turn head to clear airway, broken ribs
