Unit 5 C2 Density Flashcards
How do we define density?
The density of a material is defined as the mass per unit volume of the material.
What are the standard units for density?
What is the equation to calculate density?
What do each of the letters stand for in the equation for calculating density?
P = Density
M = Mass
V = Volume
Give a method for measuring the density of a regular solid.
Measure the mass of the object using a balance.
Calculate volume of the object by measuring with a ruler, then using the relevant calculation.
Do the density calculation
Give a method for measuring the density of an irregular solid.
Measure the mass using a balance.
Read off the volume from a beaker or measuring cylinder without and then with the object submerged in the water.
The difference in volumes is the volume of the solid.
Do the density calculation.
Give a method for measuring the density of a liquid.
Measure mass of a container using a balance, then the mass of the liquid and the container together
The difference between the two measurements is the mass of the liquid
Read off the volume from a beaker or measuring cylinder
Do the density calculation
