Matthew’s Gospel has the theme of the teaching Messiah, shows how Jesus fulfilled the Jewish prophecy, and compares Jesus to Moses. It was for converted Jews. Matthew was a tax collector and influenced Gospel structure.
Who were the Magi, what did they bring, and what did it symbolize? (Unit 6 Short Answer 1)
The Magi were the advisors to kings in religious and science. They brought gold (King of Metals and Jesus’ kingship), frankincense (Used in worship and Jesus’ divinity), and myrrh (Used in medicine and Jesus’ humanity)
Three Temptations Jesus faced in the Desert
Temptation 1:
Devil: If you are God’s Son, turn stones into bread
Jesus: Humans cannot live on bread lone, they need God
(Won’t stop suffering for God)
Temptation 2:
Devil: Throw yourself from the Temple and the angels will catch you
Jesus: Scripture says do not put the Lord to test
(Have trust in God)
Temptation 3:
Devil: Promises all kingdom in their greatness if you kneel down and worship me
Jesus: Worship the Lord and serve only Him
