Unit 5 Flashcards
The set of the second coordinates (also known as output values) of the relation
Range
Any set of ordered pairs
Relation
A relation where each value in the domain is associated with no more than one value in the range
Function
The manner of writing a function, beginning with the function name (single letter) along with a variable, followed by the function rule that will generate the values of the function
Function notation
A way is determining whether the graph of a relation is also a function by drawing vertical lines through the graph (if two or more points lie am a single vertical line, and the relation is not a function)
Vertical line test
An equation that calculates the range of values (output) of a function for each corresponding domain value (input)
Function rule
The variable represents the set of domain (input) values, which are located along the horizontal axis (x axis) on the coordinate plane the values of his variable unpredictable from the start
Independent variable
The variable represents a set of range (output) values, which are located along the vertical axis on the coordinate plane
Dependent variable
A function that graphs a non-vertical line having a constant rate of change. Power of x must equal to one
Linear function
Function that does not represent a constant rate of change, so it’s graph is not a line
Nonlinear function
The simplest form of any group of functions; The parent function for a line where the variable X has a coefficient of one and the power of one
Parent function
The set of the first coordinates (also known as input values) of a relation
Domain
