Unit 5 Flashcards
Describe each of the properties of water
Water’s polarity enables it to turn into a gas, a solid, or a liquid in certain conditions
Name each of the processes included in the hydrologic cycle
(7)
- Transpiration
- Precipitation
- Condensation
- Evaporation
- Infiltration
- Run off
- Aquifer
Transpiration
Water vapor leaving plants
Precipitation
Water released from clouds in various forms
Condensation
Water vapor turning back into liquid
Evaporation
Water changing from liquid to gas
Infiltration
Water on the ground seeping into the solid
Run off
Water that runs along the land’s surface
Aquifer
water moves through the soil and is stored in the aquifer which is a saturated area below the water table
Watershed
An area of water that separates the water into different rivers
Describe 2 ways in which human activity can negatively impact the water in our environment
- Human caused global warming makes the ice caps melt and let out a lot of unwanted and old bacteria which can bring diseases to humans and other animals.
- Most of our plastic ends up in the ocean. The plastic breaks up into micro plastics and then are eaten by animals. The animals that eat the plastics are then eaten by other animals and it keeps going down the food chain and eventually reaches us humans. It’s almost like karma for our actions.
