When someone grows up, they gradually change from being a child into being an adult.

mid-
Mid- is used to form nouns or adjectives that refer to the middle part of a particular period of time, or the middle point of a particular place.

late
Late means near the end of a day, week, year, or other period of time.
The talks eventually broke down in late spring.

A child is a human being who is not yet an adult.

An adult is a mature, fully developed person. An adult has reached the age when they are legally responsible for their actions.
Becoming a father signified that he was now an adult.

middle-aged
If you describe someone as middle-aged, you mean that they are neither young nor old. People between the ages of 40 and 60 are usually considered to be middle-aged.
His sisters are grown up and his parents are middle-aged.

Middle age is the period in your life when you are no longer young but have not yet become old. Middle age is usually considered to take place between the ages of 40 and 60.
