Harriet Tubman
Important African American Abolitionist. She helped many slaves escape slavery using the Underground Railroad. She was a spy in the Civil War who helped the North/Union.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Important in the Suffrage movement. She helped organize the first women’s convention in 1848.
Susan Brownell Anthony
Worked with Stanton on improving women’s rights and helped start the National Woman Suffrage Movement.
Sojourner Truth
An African American abolitionist. She also supported women’s rights. Most famous for her “Ain’t I a Woman” speech.
Frederick Douglass
Abolitionist leader. He was born into slavery. He became one of the most famous intellectuals of his time, advising presidents and lecturing to thousands on a range of causes, including women’s rights.
