divisor
In a division problem, it is the number dividing.
denominator
In a fraction, this number indicates the total number of equal parts that make up a whole. This number is written after the slash, or below the fraction bar, in a fraction.
numerator
In a fraction, this represents the number of equal parts represented in the denominator that are given or available. This number is written before the slash, or above the fraction bar, in a fraction.
whole number
A number whose value is 0 or greater (negative numbers are not considered whole numbers) and can be represented without a fractional or a decimal component.
reciprocal
For a number x, it is that number which, if you multiply x by it, the product is 1.
integer
A number (positive, negative, or zero) that can be represented without a fractional or a decimal component.
greatest common factor
For two or more whole numbers, this is the greatest number that divides evenly into all the numbers.
place value
The value of where a digit is located in a number. For example, in 457, the 4 is in the hundreds place, 5 is in the tens place, and 7 is in the ones place.
proper fraction
A fraction where the number in the numerator is less than the number in the denominator.
trailing zeros
Sequence of zeros after the last non-zero digit in a decimal number.
least common multiple
The smallest number in value that is a multiple of two or more numbers.
rational number
Any number that can be represented as a quotient of two integers. Decimal numbers that either terminate or repeat are rational numbers.
mixed number
A whole number plus a fraction.
dividend
In a division problem, the number being divided into.
factor
A number that divides evenly into another number.
