The lateral triangular projection of the spine of the scapula that forms the point of the shoulder and articulates with the clavicle.
acromion process
A thin-walled, disposable glass container with a narrow neck that you must snap off to access the medication.
ampule
The slanted portion of a needle tip that facilitates nontraumatic entry into tissue.
bevel
Relating to the cheek or mouth.
buccal
A flexible tube that may be inserted into a duct or cavity to deliver medication. May be guided by a trocar (sharp instrument).
cannula
The angle at either end of the slit between the eyelids.
canthus
A special container made of gelatin, sized for a single dose of a drug.
capsule
A large, thick triangular muscle that covers the shoulder joint.
Deltoid
A clear liquid containing water, alcohol, sweeteners or flavors, used primarily as a vehicle for the oral administration of a drug.
elixir
Concerning a drug formulation in which tablet or capsules are coated with a special compound that does not dissolve until the tablet or capsule is exposed to the fluids in the small intestine.
enteric coated (EC)
A very concentrated form of a drug made from animals or vegetables; may be a syrupy liquid or a powder.
extract
An alcohol-based solution of a drug from a vegetable source (e.g., belladonna); the most concentrated of the fluid preparations.
fluid extract
A standard of measurement. Includes caliber and dimensions, as in syringe needles.
gauge
Pertaining to the buttocks.
gluteal
A thick process at the upper end of the femur projecting upward externally to the union of the neck and shaft of the femur.
greater trochanter
The drug is injected under the skin, into the dermis.
intradermal
Within a muscle.
intramuscular
A small, dry, medicinal solid to be held in mouth until it dissolves.
lozenge
(troche)
A tubular space or the channel within an artery, vein, intestine, or tube. Needles, Catheters have these.
Lumen
The curved upper surface of a liquid in a container.
meniscus
A soft, medicated, fatty substance for external application to the body, having antiseptic, cosmetic, or healing properties.
ointment
Drug taken into the body other than through the digestive system.
parenteral
In related to a meal.
prandial
(pre and post prandial)
Finely ground drug(s), usually mixed with a liquid before ingesting, some are used internally, others externally.
