What is the Media?
The main means of mass communication.
Examples: TV, computer, phone, books, magazines, the internet
Marshall McLuhan
He theorized that the media’s purpose is always to send a message. Even if it’s not always obvious
“the medium is the message”
The medium is the message. A statement by Marshall McLuhan, meaning that the form of a message (print, visual, musical, etc.) determines the ways in which that message will be perceived.
Mass Media
Mass media is used to communicate to large numbers of people
Social Media
Social media is a term for the online platforms that people use to connect with others, share media content, and form social networks. Some of the most popular platforms include Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, Skype, YouTube, Viber and Snapchat.
Advertising
Advertising is a promotion of a product or service through media
Satire
The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.
Fake News
Fake news is a form of news consisting of deliberate disinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional news media or online social media. Digital news has brought back and increased the usage of fake news, or yellow journalism.
