Unit 4 Lesson 1 Flashcards
What makes up an environment ?
Living things and non living things
What are living things ?
Living things are people, plants, and animals.
What are non living things?
Non living things include water, air, soil, and weather
What makes up an ecosystem ?
Living and non living things
Give examples of ecosystems?
Rain forests, deserts, forests, and oceans
How are all parts of an ecosystem connected?
Soil and temperature determine if a plant can grow there
Types of animals in an ecosystem are determined by the plants that are thete
The following are ecosystems Give examples of what makes up each ecosystem Rainforest Coral reef Polar ecosystems Wetlands
Rainforest/trees plants animals weather water and air
Coral reef/ outer skeletons if coal animals fish plants and many type if organisms
Polar ecosystems/ice water organisms that can survive cold, cold and dry
Wetlands/have cypress Teresa with thick trunks to to hold in place
Are organisms evenly distributed amongst ecosystems ? Give example
No they are not evenly distributed
Example /rainforest has more plants polar system has few plants
Give examples of smaller ecosystems that are within large ecosystem
Tree that frog live in-smaller ecosystem
Larger ecosystem Is the rainforest
Corral reef -smaller ecosystem in the larger ecosystem of the ocean
What is a community?
Is made up of all organisms that live in the same place
How do communities change over time ?
Give examples
Natural and human activities change communities over time
Example wild fire
What is a population ?
Group made up of same type of individuals in the same ecosystem
Give an example of population
Antelopes is one population
Elephants another population
Antelopes and elephants can live in the same community
How do populations change?
Due to natural causes
Exsmple -No rain-grasses will not grow-without grass animals do not have food –some animals will not survive
What is a habitat?
A habitat is a physical part of an ecosystem that meets the needs of an organisms
