A

It establishes categories of who can come to Canada from other countries to make permanent homes here. This act dates from 2002.

What are the four categories of immigrant in Canada?

A
  1. Economic: selected for their potential to contribute to Canada’s economy through employment, investment, etc.
  2. Family Class: sponsored by a Canadian citizen for their familial relation.
  3. Refugee: granted permanent residency because of fear to return to their home country due to war, etc.
  4. Humanitarian/Other: compassionate reasons

What is the point system?

A

The point system was introduced in the Immigration Act in 1967 - It applies only to Economic Immigrants. They receive points for certain factors such as language ability, age, experience, etc. It takes 67 points to qualify.

What is the Provincial Nominee Program?

A

This program is for workers who have the skills, education and work experience that certain provinces need to fulfill labour requirements. The provinces can request for certain economic immigrants.
