Unit 4: Homeostasis Flashcards
Movement of molecules across a cell membrane without energy
Passive Transport
Higher concentration of water outside of the cell
Hypotonic solution
Higher concentration inside the cell
Hypertonic solution
Water concentration is equal inside and outside
Isotonic
Movement of molecules across a cell membrane against the concentration gradient
Active transport
Maintenance of the internal environment (e.g. sweating is used to help cool down the body and bring it BACK to its original temperature)
Homeostasis
Cell, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
Levels of organization
Goes against the trigger to decrease it (e.g. sweating)
Negative feedback loops
Goes with a trigger to increase it (e.g. childbirth)
Positive feedback loops
