What are Fundamental Rights?
Justifiable rights given to groups through a constitution
What are Universal Human Rights?
Rights that all humans should be given
What is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
A document adopted by the United Nations that highlights the rights and freedoms of all human beings
Why did the American Revolution take place?
The colonies wanted independence from Britain
Human rights are considered Inalienable, meaning what?
They cannot be taken away under any circumstances
Who was John P. Humphrey?
The Author of the original draft of the Declaration of Human Rights
Which country Has the highest proportion of female parliamentarians?
Rawanda
Who are pressing developed nations to forgive loans from countries? Why?
NGO’s
They believe the changes the loans make to countries is a bad thing

One of the first examples of a human right document
What is blood oil?
Oil obtained through violence and bloodshed
What is foreign debt?
Money borrowed to make a country more competitive on a global scale
What are the requirements the IMF and World Bank have to countries they’re giving loans to?
The countries must adjust their government structure, such as reducing spending and loosening regulations
What is a GMO (genetically modified organism)?
An organism that has been genetically altered to make it fit the needs of certain criteria
What was the Bubonic plague
A plague carried to Europe through the silk road, killed around 1/3 of the population
What is the ingenuity gap?
The difference between peoples need for solutions and their ability to achieve them
What is the The International Trade Union Confederation?
A confederation made to ensure the forces of globalization don’t erode workers rights
What is a global citizen?
Self defining individuals who are part of a worldwide community
What are the requirements to be a global citizen?
Someone who is:
- Aware of the wider world (and the issues in it)
- Willing to help others
- Respects and values diversity
- Liability towards your own actions
What are the three ways a global citizen can take action?
- Organizations (boycott businesses, create organizations, etc)
- Government (voting, be vocal, etc)
- Business (buying responsibly, making ethical choices, etc)
Definition of:
Boycotting
A form of protesting that involves refusing to buy a product/service from a company
What is a civil society?
A group made up of community groups, religious organizations, schools, etc. that work together to achieve goals
What is the World Heath Organization (WHO)?
An agency established by the UN that is concerned with international health issues
What is the primary purpose of a union?
To increase profits of a company whilst protecting the rights of its members
