Unit 4 - Episodic and Semantic Memory Flashcards
Episodic Memory
allows you to access specific events located at a particular point in time “mental time travel”
Semantic Memory
generalized knowledge of the world; may arise through the consolidation of numerous episodic memories; maintained as we age
Anterograde amnesia
results in episodic impairments causing subjects to have trouble forming new semantic and episodic memories
Retrograde amnesia
subjects have a selective deficit in either episodic or semantic memory from past or old memories
Source memory
memory for where you heard/learned a piece of info
Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test
an episodic memory task which tests a subjects ability to: Remember a new name -first and last; a belonging; an appointment; recognize pics etc
RAVLT
an episodic task wherein subjects are asked to repeat the same list on 5 trials. Then given new list to repeat. Finally repeat original list. Less real world application and subjects can’t use environmental support when compared to Rivermead
Associative Deficit Hypothesis
difficulty creating links between info as we age
Context/content binding
the ability to connect what we’ve learned, or the content, to the environment, or the context, in which we learned it
