Unit 4 - Electrical Flashcards
Ground-Fault circuit Interrupter
an electrical safety device that shuts off power in the event of an electrical imbalance
Labeled
Identifying mark to indicate that it has been tested and approved by a recognized testing laboratory
Outlet
a socket that allows an electrical device to connect to a power supply
Overload
occurs when too much current passes through an electrical circuit, exceeding its capacity to handle the flow of electricity
Panelboard
a component of an electrical distribution system that splits an electrical power feed into branch circuits
Photovoltaic (PV) System
a collection of components that convert sunlight into electricity
Raceway
an enclosed conduit that provides a physical path for electrical wiring and protects it from damage
Receptacle
a device that allows an electrical cord to be plugged in to provide power to an electrical device
Service
the equipment, materials, and conductors that supply a building with electricity from the utility system
Surge Arrester
a device that protects electrical systems from voltage spikes, surges, and other power irregularities by diverting or absorbing the energy
Ungrounded
specific parts are not intentionally connected to the ground or to a conductive body that extends to ground
Voltage (Nominal)
standard voltage rating for an electrical system or component, and it’s used to indicate the safe operating range for that system or component
GFCI
ground-fault circuit interrupter
NEC
National Electrical Code
