What does 2/4 time signature mean?
2 beats per measure, Bottom number: Quarter note equal to one beat
What is staccato?
A dot over or under notes; indicates making notes very short
What is a flat?
A symbol that occurs before a note, play this note one key to the LEFT
What is a half step?
Distance between a key on the piano and the IMMEDIATE next key
What is a whole step?
Distance between one key on the piano and two keys away/two keys away from the written note- black key to another black key, white key to another white key USUALLY.
What is a tetrachord?
Chord (group of notes) with four pitches in it
What is a major scale made up of?
Two tetrachords put together (4+4=8)
What does Fortissimo mean?
To play very loudly
What does the natural sign mean?
It means to ply the white key of that pitch (G# black key, Gb black key, G natural white key)
What is key signature?
key of C & G major
What does the Key of C Major have?
No sharps and no flats in this key
What does the key of G major have?
1 F# in the G Major Scale (G, A, B, C, D E, #F, G)
What are syncopated notes?
Notes that occur on non-strong/weak beats
