UNIT 4 Flashcards
Spontaneous Recovery
the reappearance, after a pause, of an extinguished conditioned response.
Variable-Interval Schedule
reinforcing a response after an unpredictable amount of time has elapsed.
Acquisition
the initial stage of classical conditioning when one links a neutral stimulus and an unconditioned stimulus so the neutral stimulus begins triggering the conditioned response. OR the strengthening of a reinforced response in operant conditioning.
Variable-Ratio Schedule
reinforcing a response after an unpredictable number of responses.
Classical Conditioning
a type of unconscious learning in which we link two or more stimuli where the first stimulus comes to elicit an involuntary behavior in anticipation of an associated stimulus.
Shaping
an operant conditioning procedure in which reinforcers guide behavior toward closer and closer approximations of the desired behavior.
Stimulus Generalization
the tendency for similar stimuli to the conditioned stimulus to elicit similar conditioned responses.
Extinction
the diminishing of a conditioned response when the unconditioned stimulus does not follow the conditioned stimulus.
Conditioned Response
a learned response to a previously neutral but now conditioned stimulus.
Observational Learning
learning by watching or viewing others.
Negative Punishment
decreasing behaviors by removing or reducing desired rewards to weaken a response.
Conditioned Stimulus
an originally neutral stimulus that, after association with an unconditioned stimulus, comes to trigger a conditioned response.
Neutral Stimulus
a stimulus that elicits no response before conditioning
Latent Learning
learning that occurs but is not apparent until there is an incentive to demonstrate it
Unconditioned Response
an unlearned, naturally occurring response to an unconditioned stimulus
