What is the layout of a contingency table?

Species A present and absent on top row, (row total at the end). Species B present and absent on first column, (column total at bottom). Grand total in bottom right.

Explain how coal is formed.
A
Firstly, peat is formed from the decomposition (from saprotrophs) of dead organic matter in anoxic conditions. Then, after peat is compressed underground for a long time and also loses a lot of moisture through evaporation, coal is formed.
