What is the social model of health?
Examines all the factors which contribute to health. For example, poor housing.
What is the medical model of health?
Can be measured simply by determining if a disease is present or not.

What is an antenatal clinic?
A clinic where professionals stay with patients from conception to birth.
What is a nursing home?
Registered nurses deal with the elderly who are living with chronic long-term medical conditions.
Why do people live in a care home?
Because they are unable to look after themselves. Also, they need support with daily living.
What is a day-care service?
Services provided away from home, during the day.
What does a hospice do?
Offer palliative care to people who are terminally ill, and support for their families. They could also provide respite care for those with life limiting conditions.
What is a hostel?
Temporary accommodation for those without a permanent home.
What is domiciliary care?
Care provided within the patients home.
What is health care?
Maintenance or improvement of health via diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
What is social care?
Concerns itself with helping people live their lives.

A genetic condition that can’t stop bleeding.
What does CQC stand for? What is their role?
Care Quality Commission. They monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety.
What is Ofsted’s role?
Inspect and regulate services that care for children and young people, and services providing education and skills for learners of all ages.
What does NMC stand for? What is their role?
Nursing and Midwifery Council. It maintains a register of all nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses eligible to practice within the UK.
What does NICE stand for? What is their role?
National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. Guidelines and quality standards are not mandatory. They can be used for a wide range of purposes both locally and nationally. To improve the quality of health and care services.
