unit 3- weather and climate Flashcards
what is weather
meteorogical events that happen in the atmosphere over a short period of time
what is climate
meteorogical events that happen in the atmosphere over a long period of time
humidity
how much moisture is in the air
relative humidity
how much moisture is in thre air compared to how much room there is in the air for the moisture
which is easier to predict (climate or weather)
climate because it the average temperature and weather over a long period of time and what usually happens where as wheather can change daily and be unpredeictable no matter what the climate is
how does lattitude affect climate
the closer you are to the equator the warmer the climate will be because the equator is where the suns rays are the most concentrated
nearness to bodies of weather
water heats and cools more slowly while the air above the water heats and cools more quickly making the places close to water become cold more slowly and warm more slowly
how much rain is maritime and continental
over 1000 mm annually is maritime under 1000 mm annually is continental
what seasons with more rain is continental or maritime
more rain in the summer is maritime, more rain in the winter is continental
what is the temperature differences or maritime and continental
an annual difference of over 25 degrees is maritime, an annual difference of under 25 degrees is continental
