unit 3 topic 2: visual perception Flashcards
sensation
sensing + receiving information
this is the INPUT
perception
organising and interpreting the information that has been sensed
reception
first step of sensation: where light enters into the eye - photoreceptors are used - includes rods (low light) and cones (colour)
transduction
2nd step of sensation: light energy is converted into electrochemical nerve impulse
transmission
3rd step of sensation: receptor cells send electrical impulse to primary visual cortex in occipital lobe
selection
4th step (perception): we pick the important stimuli using feature detectors
organisation
5th step (perception): visual cortex recognises info so we can make sense of it - organised
interpretation
6th step (perception): where past experiences, context, emotion gives stimulus meaning
order of stages of vision
1: reception
2: transduction
3: transmission
4:selection
5: organisation
6: interpretation
