Mood
the feeling or atmosphere that a writer creates for a reader.
Tone
the author’s attitude toward his subject.
Foreshadowing
occurs when a writer provides hints that suggest future events in a story. Foreshadowing creates suspense and makes readers eager to find out what will happen next.
Flashback
an interruption in the action to events that happened at a previous time. Could be through: italics a break in the page verbal clues "one time" or "back when I"
Unreliable narrator
a narrator who does NOT accurately relate events.
-have negative biases or lack of self-awareness that distorts his or her view
Imagery
when the text is so descriptive and detailed that the reader can picture the scene in his/her mind.
-Includes sensory details.
What is radio play?
a genre of a play written for radio broadcast
What is an ellipses?
indicates an intentional omission of a word, sentence, or whole section from a text without altering its original meaning.

provides background information for the story; must include the main characters, setting, and introduce the conflict.
What is theme?
The story’s moral or message.

Internal- a problem that occurs within a character’s mind
External- a problem that occurs with a person, society, or nature.
What is dramatic irony?
when the audience has information that the characters do not have.
What is situational irony?
there is a difference between what is expected to happen and what actually happens.
Define audacity in the sentence. “Jane had the audacity to cheat on the test when her teacher specifically told her students not to.”
shameless daring or guts.
Define hypocritical in the sentence. “The Senator was hypocritical of the other speaker because he did not agree with his thoughts.”
deceptive, one has higher standards
Define vehemently in the sentence. “The robber vehemently denied being a part of the robbery.”
