What is Conscience?
Comes from the Latin word conscientia meaning “with knowledge” and the scripture says every human person is created in the image and likeness of God.
What are Moral Choices?
When making a moral choice each person has the responsibility to act on his or her own judgement.
What’s is judgement?
conscience that helps us to make good choices.
Explain God and Conscience.
Since Conscience is not a creation of our own will , it’s evidence of the existence of God.
Explain Good and Evil.
The purpose of conscience is to produce within us an awareness of good and evil a desire for good and aversion to evil.
How does our Conscience make us feel?
Feeling of joy and peace when having done good.
Unease and guilt of having done evil.
What does it mean to have an informed Conscience?
Our conscience is infallible, it is imperfect and can make mistakes about an act to be performed.
When can Conscience be mistaken?
When we make little effort to find out what is good.
Becomes silenced through the habit of sin.
How can you educate your conscience?
Honest listening
Hear and follow the voice of conscience
The voice of God speaks in a “still small voice”
We hear it best in silence away from the world
What are the steps for making moral choices?
- Ask the Holy Spirit for help
- Think about God’s love and the teachings of the Church
- Think about what will happen as a result of your choice
- Seek advice from someone you respect and remember that Jesus is with you
- Ask yourself how your choice will affect your relationship with God and others.
What is the principle of Double Effect?
The principle is attributed to St. Tomas Aquinas who used it to show that killing in self-defense is justified
4 conditions must be satisfied: 1.The action must be morally good
2. The bad effects may only be tolerated
3. The good effect must be caused directly by the action
4. The good effects must be proportionate to compensate the bad effect(s)
What are the 7 deadly sins?
- Pride - feeling better than anyone else, arrogance
- Greed - to desire wrongfully without respect for others; wealth or material gain
- Lust - intense sexual desire
- Wrath - out of control, anger, seeking vengeance
- Gluttony - eating and drinking excessively
- Envy - jealousy of others
- Sloth - laziness
What are the 7 virtues?
- Faith - believing in the right thing and letting others come before you
- Hope - being positive
- Charity - having compassion/joy for others
- Justice - fair and equitable for all
- Temperance - the habit or practice of avoiding extremes of behavior (moderation)
- Prudence - recognizes the difference between good and evil
- Fortitude - never give up
What is the process of reconciliation?
Process of reestablishing relationship, renewing trust, settling differences so that cooperation and a sense of harmony are restored
4 Elements of reconciliation:
- Truth: acknowledge and communicate
- Forbearance: revenge or punishment
- Empathy: kindness
- A commitment to remain in the relationship: Reconciliation is on-going

Act- Execute the action
Evaluate - review your action
EX: (You’re ghosting someone)
S: Decision with affect the person being ghosted (not moral)
J: Think about how you ghosting that person will affect them and think about the right thing to do. Although ghosting seems like the right way try learning to communicate
A: Talking to the person and letting them know how you feel so you both can get the closure you need
E: Since you didn’t ghost that person, think about how they feel since you didn’t ghost them and how they would of felt if you did ghost them
