Freedom to choose your own religion, Freedom to express your opinion, Freedom to organize peaceful meetings and demonstrations, Freedom to associtae with any person or group

imprisonment, search and seizure without reasons
backed by law and evidence - The right to a fair and quick public trial by an
impartial court that assumes that you are innocent
until proven guilty

What is the First Nations and Indian Act?
The Indian Act: 1876
1. Required First Nations people to obtain government permission
to wear traditional clothing.
2. Banned traditional ceremonies, such as the Sundance of the
Siksika.
3. Prevented First Nations from taking political action.
Canadian Women and the right to vote?
- 1918 Canadian women were finally allowed to vote
- In 1876 Canadian women campaigned for the right to vote
- Famous Five: Suffragettes
- Emily Howard Stowe: first female doctor, found a club to fight women’s suffrage (women’s right to vote)

The Internment of Ukranian Canadians
- People of Ukranian and German descent were arrested because of their identity.
- Canada was at war with Germany and its allies.
- Canada’s government took away people’s homes and possessions.
- Many arrested were men but their families were sent to camps to do work. But they got no earnings from it.
First Nations and the Indians Act
- In 1876 the Indian Act was passed. This affected First Nations who had ended Treaties with Canada’s government.
- They were not allowed to vote,
- they were banned from traditional ceremonies,
- and they were prevented from taking a government position because of their traditional clothing.
The Internment of Italian Canadians
- People of the Italian descent were arrested and sent to camps.
- They were mostly focused on men but some families had to follow.
- 700 people were affected by the arrests.
The Internment of Japanese Canadians
- Canadians who has Japanese ancestry were suddenly hated and people were suspicious.
- Families were forced to move away from their communities because of this. They were sent to camps and were not allowed to leave unless specifically spoken to by an RCMP.
- They’re homes and possessions were all sold and they had nothing.
