- Support development of minority language communities
- Reunite Families
- Share benefits of immigration, and support a prosperous economy
- Promotes successful integration of immigrants, while recognizing mutual obligation (requirements) of new immigrants and Canadian society
What is Immigration LAW?
The immigration LAW says who is allowed into Canada
What is Immigration POLICY?
The Immigration POLICY sets the procedures for evaluating Immigrants and says how many people are allowed into Canada each year

This is a way for Canada to determine who they will accept as Immigrants

What is the definition of a Refugee?
A person who seek refuge in another country because of danger/persecution in their home country
What is the United Nations Convention?
Canada had signed and agreed to not decline Refugees where their lives/freedom would be threatened because of their ; race, religion, nationality, membership in specific group/political opinion
What is the Immigration Act of 1976?
Refugees became an official immigration category, and were accepted steadily
What is the Immigration Act of 2002?
The act was updated and was now called IRPA - Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
How does Immigration affect the collective rights of Aboriginal peoples?
- They expect the government to inform them when making decisions that affect them
- Canada and Aboriginal work together and share prosperity
- Challenges can create obstacles for Aboriginals
What is the Provincial Nomination Program?
This program lets provinces control some aspects of Immigration in Canada. They can nominate a percentage of immigrants that Canada selects. This makes sure immigrants will settle in provinces where labour is needed.
What is the Canada Quebec Accord?
This allows Quebec to nominate a percentage of immigrants that are French. BUT children who are Immigrants who come to Quebec MUST attend a French language school. This law is set to keep the French heritage alive.

Provincial Nomination Program ; allows provinces to specify that it needs Immigrants with a specific skill set
What is the Canada Quebec Accord?
Allows Quebec to nominate a percentage of immigrants that are French. BUT they are required to attend a French school to keep the heritage alive. (Most Immigrants that Immigrate to Quebec are actually non - French speaking)
