What is the test to identify between an Aldehyde and a Ketone ?
Fehlings Solution.
What is the result of that test ?
An Aldehyde will go from red to blue but the Ketone won’t have any change.
What is the test for Alkenes ?
Bromine water.
What is the result of that test ?
The Bromine water will decolourise.
What is the test for Carboxylic acids ?
Sodium Carbonate.
What is the result of that test ?
It will fizz.
What is used to test for Halogenoalkanes ?
Nitric acid and Silver nitrate.
What is the result of that test ?
Cream precipitate will form.
What is used to test for Alcohols ?
Postassium Dichromate.
What is the result of that test ?
Primary and Secondary Alcohols will turn green but Tertiary Alcohols won’t change.
What is another test to identify between Ketones and Aldehydes ?
Silver Nitrate and dilute ammonia.
What is the result of that test ?
The Aldehyde will have a silver mirror and the Ketone will not change.
