Saladin
A person who moves from place in search of resources - food, water, shelter, etc.
Nomadic
The individual who led the French army to victory at Orleans and served as a uniting force for the French during the 100 Years War.
Joan of Arc
A war that is fought between citizens of the SAME country.
Civil War
A war that is fought between citizens of the SAME country.
Civil War
A series of religious wars between Christians and Muslims that started primarily to secure control of holy sites considered sacred by both groups.
Crusade
A judicial procedure done by the Catholic Church, and countries like Spain, to rid non-Catholics from an area - most notably Muslims and Jews during the Reconquista.
Inquisition
Considerably reduce the population of (an area), e.g. Beijing and Baghdad by the Mongols.
Depopulate
A Russian ruler or monarch
Tsar
A large area of flat grassland that is common in Asia and where the Mongol people began.
Steppe
The process of being united or being made into a whole.
Unification
A country whose citizens are unified by a common culture and language more than ties to lords.
Nation-states.
A territory that has been gained by the use of defeat and military force.
Conquest
The exchange of culture from one place to another.
Cultural diffusion
Describes the peaceful effects of the conquests of the Mongol Empire on the social, cultural, and economic life of the peoples of the large territory that the Mongols conquered in the 1200s.
Pax Mongolica (Mongolia)
A time when something suddenly begins, especially a disease, or something else dangerous or unpleasant.
Outbreak
Was a series of conflicts waged from 1337 - 1453 between England and France because of trade disputes and marriages that basically meant that the English King also wanted to become the king of France.
The 100 Years War.
Were religious extremists of the Middle Ages in Europe who demonstrated their religious fervor and sought punishment for their sins by vigorously whipping themselves in public displays of self-punishment. They thought that this act of self-punishment fulfilled the sacrament of penance.
Flagellants
It was the group of settled Mongols who ruled over Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Moldova, and the Caucasus from the 1240s until 1502. This group was established by Batu-Khan, a grandson of Genghis Khan. Eventually, Ivan kicked them out of power and formed Russia.
The Golden Horde
A person holding an opinion at odds with what is generally accepted by the Catholic Church.
